Planning a desert trip in my Jeep Wrangler but the AC smells funny.
We are planning a family trip to Fujairah next month and I want my Jeep Wrangler ready before we go. The problem is the AC. For about two weeks now it gives a damp, sour smell for the first minute after I switch it on, a bit like old socks, and the air does not feel as cold as it did in spring. My kids keep complaining in the back seat and my wife has started opening the windows, which kind of defeats the point. I tried one of those spray cans from the shop that you put near the vents, and it worked for one day only. After that the smell came right back. I have been reading about what might cause it, and I learned that it can be a dirty cabin filter, a wet evaporator that grows bacteria, or even a blocked drain pipe. I also read that low gas can make the air weaker, but that would not explain the smell. Everything gets mixed up in my head. My cousin told me to just go to any garage and ask for a gas refill, but I feel that might be a waste if the real issue is somewhere else. A friend from work said most of the car AC places are around the industrial areas in Sharjah, and I even typed Quality Jeep AC repair near Industrial Area 3 into my phone while sitting in the car one evening, just to see what comes up. I opened a page about Jeep cars on one local website and it explained things in a simple way, like how the evaporator and the condenser work. It did not solve anything, but at least I understood the words better. My questions are simple. How long should a proper AC check take on a Jeep? Should the garage clean the vents and the evaporator or only add gas? Also, is it normal for the AC to lose some power in the desert heat even when everything is fine? I would love to hear from anyone who fixed a smell like this and how much it cost you. Thanks a lot for any help.
