Camaro SS making a ticking noise, anyone dealt with this?
My Camaro SS has developed a ticking sound from the engine bay that’s most noticeable at idle and gets faster with revs. It’s not loud enough to be alarming yet but it wasn’t there a month ago and I don’t like unexplained noises on a V8. I’ve read it could be anything from an exhaust leak to a lifter issue, and the LS engines apparently have known problems with the lifters in certain years. I don’t want to take it to a generic garage that’ll just tell me it’s normal, so I’m looking for someone who actually knows these engines. A guy at a car meet mentioned an Expert Camaro specialist near ICAD Abu Dhabi and said they diagnosed a similar noise on his car properly instead of guessing. My question is whether a ticking noise on these is usually serious or just an exhaust manifold leak, and how do you tell the difference without pulling the engine apart. Has anyone here had lifter issues on an SS and what were the symptoms before it got bad?
