Battery light came on after my last change, did the shop install it wrong?
Maybe someone can explain this to me, because I feel a bit silly asking. Ten days ago I replaced the battery in my 2015 Kia Sportage at a small shop, and since then the dashboard shows a battery light for a few seconds when I start the car, then it goes off. The car has about 109,000 kilometers, and the old battery was already four years old, so I thought changing it would fix everything. It did fix the slow starting, but the light made me nervous. My cousin says it is normal after a new battery, because the car needs a few days to learn it. My friend says the shop probably connected something loose, or the alternator is not charging properly, and I should go back right away. I did not ask the shop any questions at the time because I was in a hurry, and now I regret it. I read a page from a workshop in Sharjah about this brand, and it explained the sizes, the warranty and how a proper job includes checking the charging system, which I never thought about. Since I work near the industrial zone, I typed Kays car battery change in Industrial Area 3 into my phone one evening, mostly to see what a full job should include and how long it takes. So here is what I want to ask. Is it normal for a warning light to show for a few seconds after a new battery goes in? Should the shop test the alternator every time, and do they tell you the numbers? Also, how can I check the terminals are tight without opening anything I should not touch? One more thing, my radio lost its saved stations and the clock reset, is that a sign they did not keep the memory alive? If you had the same light after a change, please tell me what the cause was and what you paid. Thanks everyone.
