Anyone here swapped a dead Audi gearbox for a used one? Worth it or a gamble?

My Audi A6 is a 2016 model with about 138,000 km, and last week it went into limp mode on the highway and refused to go past third gear. I managed to crawl to the shoulder, and the tow truck driver looked at me with that sad face that told me everything. The workshop says the gearbox is finished, and now I am stuck choosing between a full rebuild, a brand new unit, or a used one from a scrapped car. My cousin Anwar says a used gearbox is the smart money move because the car is old anyway and I plan to sell it in a year or two. My neighbor Rashed says that is the worst idea, because nobody knows how the previous owner treated it, and I could end up paying twice. I honestly cannot tell who is right. I was reading around to understand what a fair process looks like, and a few people mentioned a auditransmissionrepair.ae for getting a proper diagnosis before deciding anything, which made sense to me because I do not even know if the whole unit is dead or only a part inside it. So now I have a few questions for people who have been there. How do you check the history of a used gearbox, like the mileage or the car it came from? Does a used unit come with any warranty, and does that warranty cover the labor to fit it? Is a rebuilt one really better than a used one, or is it just a nicer word for the same thing? Also, after a gearbox is replaced, does the car need a computer setup or a long test drive before it feels right? I have heard it can feel odd for the first few days. And roughly how long did your car stay at the workshop, because I rely on it for work every day? If you chose the cheaper path and regret it, please tell me. If you chose it and it worked out, I would love to hear that too.
